WW Artist Alley

Wizard World Chicago starts this Thursday! The Sun Bros will be at Chicago Comic Con all four days at the Donald E Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont, IL, setting up in Artist Alley booth D24. If you’ll be at the convention, come by and say hello! We’ll have all our books available at special convention prices and we’ll even be unveiling some new mini comics we’ve been working on – and we’ll be posting more info and previews of our latest projects soon!

But that’s not all! We’ll also be table neighbors with the incredible Sarah Benkin of Peppermint Monster, who’s been working with Wesley on her upcoming horror anthology, Then It Was Dark! We’ll also be featured on not one but TWO panels on this year’s Wizard World programming lineup …

“From Kickstarter to Convention: How to Print, Self-Publish, and Profit as an Indie Creator”

Thursday, August 21, 5:30pm-6:15pm, Room 1

The Sun Bros have published all three of their comic books—Chinatown, Apocalypse Man, and Monkey Fist—through tremendously successful Kickstarter campaigns, bringing in over $40,000 from more than 900 backers from around the world. Now their books are featured at comic conventions and on the shelves of bookstores and comic shops throughout Chicagoland, and they continue to receive online orders for their books every week. But how did they do it? From creating to crowdfunding to tabling at your next con, join Wesley Sun and Brad Sun from Sun Bros Studios for an interactive panel discussion and learn how to get your own work out there!

Yellow Fever, Yellow Peril, and the Yellow Ranger: Asian Americans in Geek Culture & History

Saturday, August 23, 1:30pm-2:15pm, Room 6

From otaku fan culture to the myth of the “model minority,” there’s a rising interest, enthusiasm, and host of assumptions around Asian Americans in geek culture today. But how have Asian Americans been represented in popular culture and what effect does this have on creators and fans? How does one’s ethnic identity affect the art we create and the way we consume it? Join Dawn Xiana Moon (producer / director, Raks Geek, web developer, singer-song writer),  Michi Trota (managing editor, Uncanny Magazine, Chicago Nerd Social Club board member), Wesley and Brad Sun from Sun Bros Studios (comic book creators, ChinatownMonkey Fist), and Kat Tanaka Okopnik (geek culture and social justice writer), for an interactive discussion and Q&A of Asian Americans in geek culture and history! Sponsored by the Chicago Nerd Social Club.
